The "Stripes" won the 5th Annual IWGA Unity Cup held at Harrison Lake CC in Columbus on May 30th. They defeated the "Stars" by a score of 81 - 58.
Members of the Stripes team included Frances Walker, Hilary Bowman, Cynthia Roberts, Jackie Hauck, Cinda Brown, Judy Deiwert, Cherri Keller, Mary Gynn, Lynn Hardin, Donita Compton, Carol Johnston and Michelle Mills. (not shown in order)
Beginning at 8:00 a.m. twosomes from the Stars, paired with twosomes from the Stripes, began the first nine holes in a Pinehurst Alternat Shot format. At the completion of the first nine, Brown and Keller for the Stripes had ammassed the most team points with six. The Stars point leaders were Windisch and Wolfla, who had accumulated four points.
The same pairs from each team them continued on to the second nine with a change in format to Best Ball with handicap. Bowman and Johnston from the Stripes won points on five holes, while two teams from the Stars accumulated four points with their best ball - Hawk/St. John and Howell/Clark.
After a lunch break in the Harrison Lake club house, the teams were re-paired and went back to the front nine for the singles matches with full handicap. Leading the Stripes in holes won was Hauck, IWGA President, with six points. Wolfla, from the Stars, won five holes for five points.
Team members for the Stars included Michelle Smith, Gwen Tierney, Carla Windisch, Linda Hawk, Aren Howell, Annella Dixon, Ruth Houk, Jina Clark, Susan St. John, Liz Wolfla, Kathy Hanes and Terry Farrer.
